I’m automatically in favor of gay marriage because of my feelings about events involving cake, but what I can’t understand is the fear that people have about it threatening straight marriage. You do realize that if we legalize gay marriage we won’t be making straight marriage illegal, right? Are you worried gay weddings are going to be so much more awesome than your boring-ass straight weddings that Jeremy’s going to leave you for a guy? Is your marriage really going to fall apart because Tom and Derek have a make-your-own bloody mary bar at the morning rehearsal?
And what’s with this rationale about it all being part of our slow slide towards legalizing bestiality? I’m pretty sure everyone in the gay community thinks the idea of animal-lovin’ is as gross as any “family values” conservative. After all, they like people of their own gender. Not animals. That’s why you hate them, remember? If you’re so worried about some guy marrying a donkey then why don’t we make THAT prop. 8? I’d vote for that. I mean, no offense republicans, but I’ve always considered animal fucking to be more of an *ahem* red state issue. I’m just sayin’. So, don’t worry about gay folk getting married. It’ll be fun and there will be karaoke at the reception.
My personal theory is that republicans want to keep gay marriage illegal, because they would be to tempted to just go and marry some dude otherwise.
As a rule of thumb, I always assume that the loudest, most vocal homophobic gay basher in the room is actually secretly a closet homosexual.
